High-Throughput Screening System @ Novartis
Oct 2020 – Jul 2022 | Novartis article
Designed and built an electrical stimulation system for cardiovascular drug screening on 96-well plates. Previous system only used 8 of 96 wells due to stimulator size and electrode limitations.
Solution: demultiplexing + solid-state switching (triacs) to route signals independently to each well, with a PCB designed for concurrent microscope imaging and biocompatible platinum/gold-coated electrodes.
- 8 channels to 96 channels (12x improvement)
- ~$2,000 to ~$200 per unit (10x cost reduction)
- Platform expanded to other cardiovascular research groups at Novartis

Human cardiomyocytes cultured on flexible silicone posts.

PCB with gold-coated electrodes.
